Hello All. I was diagnosed about May last year. I had the usual checks (I think) but no Hb1Ac (?) and have not heard about any further checks since then. Should I have done?

Hi,

I'm not too sure as you are type 2 diet controlled (if still correct?) but i imagine as you are recently diagnosed you should at least be having 6 monthly checks maybe even 3 monthly which would mean your overdue.

What was your last HBA1C?

Has your control changed since? like a rise in Blood glucose levels?

I would give your diabetes centre a call and ask this same question. If you feel like you want/need one then don't be afraid to ask, your GP could even do one for you :)

Thank you ebony. I've never had an Hb A1C (I struggle with the order of that!). I'm actually really struggling to take any of it seriously since I don't seem to be being monitored and keep saying 'I've given up diabetes'. I kept thinking about my death before then. But I know I'm eating the wrong things and really wish I could be checked and told off! It's not the same asking to be seen. I feel pretty uncared for really.... So thank you for replying. I needed it!

I can understand that if the professionals don't seem to care then it's hard to take it seriously yourself!

You definately should have had a HBA1C by now, you should have had one on diagnosis then at least six months later, this is so your control is being monitored and if your HBA1c starts to rise then you can take action! and it would probably be useful for you so you can see if you truly are being too naughty

Call your diabetes centre and just simply say i was diagnosed back in May and i'm concerned i haven't had any routine check ups recently!, or you could always make an appointment with your GP and he/she could do this for you too :)

Hope you get this sorted and all is well with results :)
