hi,
i was wondering at what Bg level people tend to get hypos, does it vary? Its only because i have read that a good range for BG is between 4-6 mmol yet i get hypo symptoms when i go below 5mmol. is this the same for anyone else?
Also can i request to get a HbA1c done at my drs? i had one done ages ago and it came back as 6. and the one last week came back at 8.2 which i was told was good. but it's not good if its going up surely? my BGs have been a bit high recently and i;m trying too bring them down again. how long should i wait before i ge anther test?
any advice would be appreciated

An Hba1c is a reading over 90 days so what you need to do is try and get your BG levels down over the next 90 days then get another hba1c done and see if it is down.
If you have been running high BG's then your body gets used to that so therefore you feel hypo at a lower level but not necessarily under 4 if that makes sense.

thats what i was thinking, though i have always been like it even when honeymooning. i have noticed that sometimes it is in the 4's and no hypo symptoms, but not v often. i will book myself in for a new test in 3 months then, fingers crossed i'll have this under control by then!!! thanks sue:)

This is an "it depends" question.

I have had distinct hypo symptoms at 5.5 following a rapid drop of around 5 points. I've also had no symptoms down around 3.5 but that's pushing it a bit for me.

Some newly diagnosed people who were running high numbers for a long time may feel hypo up around 8.

Once you spend more time in a normal range your hypo level should reset to somewhere more realistic.
