When they say high blood sugar over a number of years can damage organs do they mean if it is over say, 10 everyday you are in trouble
or has to be higher and does that have to happen everyday for years, this has me baffled

Re: When they say high bllod sugar

It's a hard question to answer, mainly because we don't know the answer :)

Some people will get damage at level "A" and others don't some get it at level "B" and others never do.

To limit the chances of complications I think you should keep your BGs as low as is possible for you, not for anyone else but for you.

Some can manage to never go over 7, some (like me) are happy to go above this (8) but I would suggest that to be 10 or above on a repeated basis is not good. It is at around these levels that some damage is known to occur in some people. So best keep your Bgs as low as is comfortable for you, maybe aim for 8 as a peak two hours after food.

To go to 10 on very the odd occasion won't kill you, but it's best not to make a habit of it.

That's my opinion, others may vary....

What little evidence there is, suggests that going over 7 for long or frequent periods is harmful. [I've gathered this number from lots of reading]

One thing we do know with relative certainty is that third world countries that had no real problem with ailments such as high blood pressure, CHD, obesity and other metabolic conditions, show a statistically dramatic rise in diabetes, as well as other metabolic conditions 20 years after the wide spread introduction of the modern western diet.....
