Hi I'm new to this.. I am in a rut and need advice on how best to get out. I'm in Spain and my doctor and nurse are great but the language barrier means I don't know as much as I should. (type 2 for 3 yrs, on insulin,2x a day, for 2 yrs).

I know everyone is different but my main concern is my evening meal. When should I have it?

My original instructions were eat little and often. So 8am,12pm then main meal at 3pm (with rice/pasta etc). Snack at 5pm then another meal at 8pm (without rice etc) and a snack b4 bed if needed.

At first I stuck to it but I don't need the snacks and my sugars are high when I go to bed and when I get up.

Does anyone eat a 'proper' evening meal at 6pm ish WITH pasta/rice etc.. ? Cause that would make my life so much easier.

Thanks for listening (well reading :))

Yes, I eat my main meal of the day around that time, sometimes later.
Like you I'm on a twice daily dosage of insulin(Type 2 for five years) and nobody ever said to me I shouldn't eat my main meal at that time of day. On the rare occasions I've eaten my main meal at midday instead, I then find come 11.00 at night, my sugars will go lowish and I'll need a snack before bed.
You can only try it and see how you get on.Good luck.

OMG. For the first time ever tonight I had a Subway. Around 6.00 p.m. and........just taken a reading and it is 17.3. [:0] My meter flashed up for me to check my ketones which I've done. They're fine but I shall be crossing Subway off my list of eats.Ho hum. It's a learning curve.

Choc,

I always try to have my meals at around the same time and usually have my main carb meal at teatime, unless i am working late. Then i will have my main meal at midday and have a snack tea at work. I will normally need a slice of toast later on as i will get peckish when i have worked late.

You will find your own balance.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try again from scratch. Tested sugars last night about 7.45pm and got a good reading 110, I hadn't eaten since 2.30pm and that was a salad with fresh orange juice! Tested 2hrs after and 193!! And NO I didn't pig out on carbs. Ok, I had a Birds Eye cod in breadcrumbs BUT it was cooked in the oven and I have veg... (hubby got a few chips)..
Well, I'll take it once step at a time and find the time to get off my butt and do some more walking!
So if Subway's are off the menu does that mean so are Burger Kings?!? LOL

Orange juice (in fact any fruit juice) is full of suagr. Fruit sugars, I grant you, but sugar nonetheless.

I often use pure 100% squeezed orange juice as a hypo treatment.

Salad is fine, but lose the juice and your levels should stay much more steady.
