Hi everybody

when I was diagnosed 25 years ago or so I was was told that within 10 years there would be a cure..........how wrong were they, has anybody else been told anything like this... ?

Nope Mack, but why cure something if you can make money from it. Am I a cynic or what.

I was told this too when I was diagnosed in 2000 aged 11, in the back of my mind I still think it may happen one day. But I've given up on someone else taking responsibility for 'fixing' my body and realised I need to manage what I have.

I was told much the same 31 years ago by my well-meaning father, the day will come and I just hope I'm around to see it :)

Hate to say it dawnmc bu i dont think ur a cynic. My gp actually said this to me the other week which surprised me hugely. He said the pharamceutical companies are bigger than most goverments and his words were "theres no profit in cure"
I must say i came out of there stunned. He did add he had no proof if this but its hus belief. Quite wirrying really but if u think about how much money all us diabetics earn these companies it is logical :-(

Lets hope that cure gets thru one way or another x

almost 48 years ago my Mum was told there would be a cure in 5 years time. We are both still awaiting that day.

my Gp keeps telling me that in 0 yrs time they are working on it.i then turned round to him once andpointed out that he had been telling me that for the last 10 yrs,he smiled and said im trying to keep you hope up and that they are working on it, :o

Personally, I just prefer straight facts than people telling me a load of bull to keep my hopes up.

I'm also pretty sure that the majority of medical conditions we suffer today are a result of our own evolutional and environmental influences and changes and the evolution of foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals. We're more socially engineered than we could ever imagine and who of us isn't guilty of falling for the 'this is no longer deemed good for you, so you must now buy this and substitute that' sales pitch? I certainly am. I can still remember how guilty I felt about using butter because I thought my kids would be ill if I didn't change to a low fat spread. Now I'm back to butter, just like my mother told me. I have gone against my own instincts when eating nearly all my life and all because I thought manufacturers, medical profession, media, knew better than my own mind.

And that's how I believe society changes over time, and so does how our bodies work or not work. Eventually, who knows, our grandchildren and great grandchildren may evolve to live in this chemical food and pharmaceutical world without the need for a pancreas altogether.

Just a thought. :)
