Where am I Going Wrong?

We've been low-carbing for just over a month now. I have gone from 11st to 11st3lbs - putting on 3lbs in as many weeks.

A typical day's menu is;

Breakfast: Lowcarb almond/flax seed porridge, with 1tbsp cream, a glass of water, cup of coffee, with half a sweetener & splash cream.

Lunch: Salad greens, 2 radish, 1 hard-boiled egg, 30g Wensleydale cheese, 1tbsp homemade dressing. Glass of water.

Dinner: Pork tenderloin stirfry, with shedloads of veg (baby sweetcorn, green beans, celery, broccoli, mange tout, peppers, a little carrot, spring onions) and instead of noodles, shredded white cabbage and spring greens. More bl**dy water.

Before bed: Slice of low carb chocolate cake (3g carb) and small glass milk (to take my pills with or I'm up with reflux)

How on earth am I managing to put weight on? MH is losing about 1 to 2lbs per week. Please don't say drink more water, or I'll drown.....if I drink the recommended two litres I will have to live my life from the loo :silent:

Hi Julia it does p**s you off doesn't it when the men lose (they always do). Hang in there. I didn't lose weight for a while then stalled for a month or 2. So far lost 1 st, in 3 and a 1/2 months. I do exercise tho and that helps. The only thing that hasn't altered is my bg levels no idea why. I'm not obese just overweight.
I have cut back on the butter and cheese, and replaced it with avocados which I love.
Just keep going oh and use the tape measure too sometimes when you dont lose weight the inches fall away.

Oh no. I hate it when you do all the right things and it still doesn`t budge, never mind goes up. Perhaps you will start to lose when the thyroxin is right. I am sad for you Julia xxx

Blood tests say the same as always - normal thyroid activity. I have to pop in to get the results printed out - the receptionist wouldn't tell me the exact results over the telephone. Why not, I wonder? Was the line tapped? I have no hope of getting the doctor to increase the dosage, it was a long enough fight just trying to get diagnosed. She has already admitted she knows nothing of hypothyroidism, but she won't refer me to an Endo.

It's odd though. I've cut out sweet treats and any amount of icecream ( I can quite happily eat a whole tub of Hagen Daaz or Ben & Jerry's, in one sitting twice week or more) not to mention my love of Revels or Crunchie bars - the list is endless. Not touched any desserts, apart from a couple of bowls of approved chocolate mousse and the aforementioned low carb cake last night. I have the very occasional 10g carbs yoghurt. I ought to add, before your eyebrows get lost in your hair :roll: , that I'm not the diabetic, he is.

I'm really missing fruit. I love fruit and always used to eat a lot. I have a small whole pear every other day, and a few strawberries on the in between days. And all my garden fruit trees are smothered in blossom.......at least I can eat the tiny alpine strawberries when they fruit.

I don't work out, other than lumping an 18st man about everywhere, doing everything around the house, constantly running up and down two flights of stairs, maintaining the garden, the chickens, the cats and four fully grown children.

I've been reading about starvation diets (no, not going there) and how they can shock your metabolism into thinking that you are facing starvation and your body will then let loose a whole lot of 'appetite-increasing fat-storing hormones' in order to prevent you from starving. I wonder if this is what my (already screwed up) metabolism is doing? Although I'm not starving it, it possibly thinks I am as I've cut down the amount I eat drastically - so, when it becomes accustomed to the new regime, will my metabolism then restart itself and act as it's supposed to?....any thoughts on that anyone?

I love fruit too, and my trees are blossoming fit to burst :(

I have just been thinking (no doubt you heard the screeching) Perhaps you will start to lose of you do the Atkins induction for two weeks? It`s harsh, but it might give your body a kick start.

No idea about the starvation mode thing. I didn`t seem to be able to lose weight until recently, and even more so now my body is in ketosis. I will be interested in my thyroid function test results when I have it checked this month.
