Where do I start?!!

I've been diabetic on insulin since I was 3 (28 years ago!!) and have always followed a hi carb diet and tried to adjust my insulin accordingly. I'm not managing it well... a constant battle and now my Hba1c is terrible... 11.3!! I really like the idea of lo carb as i'm a meat and veg lover. I'm also a stone and a half overweight... also hypothyroid and hyposplenic and prone to infections.

where do I start??? at the moment my insulin levels are 6-6-12 (before meals) and 20 overnight. I have a HUGE bowl of special K or cornflakes for brekky, sandwich and yogurt for lunch or instand past/ cuppa coup/ noodles; and a MASSIVE dinner of maily rice/ potatoes, meat, some veg, and more carbs! I snack on a lot of fruit in the day.

I am a childminder and parent and dont have time to make beautiful stuff from scratch... quick and easy is good, and lunch is always on the run!!

How do i START a lo carb diet? do i immediately take less insulin? I was always taught that I had to eat enough carb to cover my insulin levels....

my husband was diagnosed type 2 - on pills and insulin - 3 years ago and is doing much better than me. phew!

Any advice is welcome!! I'm new to the forums...
Thanks!!

Try reading through the low carb forum for advice and information, there are many type 1's who low carbers or are on a reduced carb diet. Looking at your daily food I can see why your bg's are erratic, you need to cut back on the carbs gradually to establish good control. Have you done the DAFNE course?....this is a carb counting course for type 1's which teaches you to adjust your insulin to the carbs you eat (insulin/carb ratio) once you work out your ratio for each meal-time things will hopefully make more sense, and you may limit or increase your carbs accordingly. Ask your diabetes nurse about the DAFNE course or similar.
