Hi guys. I’m currently visiting the UK from Aussie. I didn’t anticipate I’d be gone this long (coming up on 6 months) and really want to get an Hba1c done to keep monitoring.

I know you can buy at home tests but they’re quite ££. I am registered with the NHS so am wondering if it’s feasible to organise a blood test? Does anyone have any ideas where to start? I’m pretty unfamiliar with the system here so not sure if it’s manageable.

Appreciate any tips, thanks

If you are not registered with a specific surgery then visiting one with any paperwork concerning healthcare, and perhaps identity you have and asking if you can register with them might be the first step.
If you are registered then a call to that surgery should at least provide information on what can be done.

Thank you, will do this. Just need to find one that’s not overloaded!

I do one every 6 months with thriva they send you a pack in the post and you do it yourself. Very quick the results come in a couple of days

Thank you, OB87. My GP surgery agrees to take blood test for HbA1C only once in 12-months. Therefore, I'm pleased to see this information about Thriva.

I have used Monitor My Health, which is run from the lab at the NHS Exeter trust, so all the relevant protocols are followed (although to be clear I'm not suggesting Thriva or anyone else doesn't) They do a variety of tests.

Similarly the test is sent to you to do ant your leisure and send back. It costs £29
