I am from Sheffield. I am only asking the question because I have been recently on the Desmond Course and whilst some of the information was useful the main message was eat less, lose weight oh and you'll be on medication for the rest if your life.

I thought it would be good to set a meet up once a month for people with type 2 & 1 to talk about what's worked for them and swap ideas and support one another.

If anyone is from Sheffield could you let me know your thoughts.
 
The Desmond course advises people to eat a lot of carbs. Small wonder that they think you will be on medication for the rest of your life. I have cut back on carbs and now am off all diabetic medication as my HbA1C is non diabetic levels.

I'm in a different country.... but wish you the best on your journey. Everyone is different. When I was diagnosed there were no such forums as this... so it's a plus that you're here as you get to see what works and doesn't work for others, etc. The only thing I'd say to anyone with type 2 is to get the diagnostic tests done every now and again especially if you notice things are not working. This is what happened to me. I'm now insulin deficient and on insulin therapy to treat my diabetes.... but still a journey I'm on just like everyone else.
 
I'm certain that there is a thread about meetings in York somewhere on the forum.
 
Hi @grante - I live in York. And have met up with a Forum Member from Sunderland last year who visited York and have met up with 2 Forum Members from Lancashire in March who visited York.
And there is a meet up in the pipeline for several Forum Members to meet up in York for July.
 
I work just out side York, so please count me in if you are getting together

That is a 'stones throw' out of York.
When I get to know any information on the July meet up? I will post it on the meet up thread and also to yourself and other members .
 
Leicester England pronounced Lester for those from further afield who may struggle with our quirky language.
