Hiiiii, I do feel that for all diabetics it is essential to wear a medical id bracelet etc. As said earlier it can reduce time to receive the right treatment. I myself have ordered one, as type 1 if for any reason I would be put on a glucose drip this would severely effect my BG levels which can lead to excess bleeding from wounds as well as extended healing times. All diabetics should wear ID tags in my own opinion, it is effective on preventing being given the wrong treatment. Not only that I do feel that the health authorities should at least contribute to giving ID tags. Its not a case of the NHS footing another bill it is a case of prob saving money long term on giving correct treatment rather than without the right information giving perhaps expensive treatment that doesnt work.

Hey to everyone i have just been diagnosed withType 2 Diabetes and went looking for information about the condition and found it here. I read the posts about alert wristbands and tattoos. Medical alert i can understand but a tattoo not so sure ? If you have more than one medical issuse could work out exspensive and painfull and if your medical status changes not so easy to change a tattoo. I have multiple medical conditions and like others i needed an alert system that what good for me unfortunatley i could not find what i needed. So i decided to design one myself and have a few made. It is a silicone wristband that has the universal medical symbol on it aswell as medical alert. The wristband has a small cavity engineered into it that contains a waterproof laser printed booklet 3,4 or 5 pages ( 3 booklets with each order ) which can contain upto 400 character including spaces. If your conditions change you simply change the booklets not the wristband ( @ a cost of £2 for 3 replacement booklets ). This product can be found at www.medicallergywristbands.com Hope this of some help to people how may want a personalised wristband with their name, D.O.B, NHS No,medical or allergy conditions and contact names and phone numbers all in one wristband in case of an emergency. Hi

I found this discussion useful, I have just been diagnosed T2 but have a number of other conditions including sleep apnoea that doctors would need to be aware of if ever I was admitted in an emergency. Its been on the edges of my thoughts for a while now as I am a keen fan of 24 hours in A&E and realised that if they ever did a CT scan on me confusion would reign as I am missing a couple of organs and have a small extra spleen!

I didn't want a bracelet that looked like jewellery and I wanted to be able to have my wrists bare in certain circumstances. I looked at the website listed above www.medicallergywristbands.com and as it was local to me decided to try one. I got an extra large one so that if I was in posh long dress I could wear it on my ankle. Having seen the TV shows if I was unconscious they would have to have someone on my feet to lift me so would see it! I was really impressed both by the speed of dispatch and the band itself. After a little more thought I decided to get a second one for my wrist for when I am driving on my own across the country. I still feel a bit labeled (personal hang up)

Sorry pressed submit when I was trying to correct my poor spelling

I still feel a bit labeled but the band looks more normal to me than some of the alert brackets I have seen and I can also loop easily on key ring or phone if I don't want to answer colleagues questions on why I need one.
