Hi,

I have just joined this forum as I am planning to relocate back to Britain from the Republic of Ireland, where I have been based for the past 13 years.

I would welcome advice with regard to what forum members may consider to be the best Diabetic hospital/clinic in Britain. I am a type one diabetic for over 40 years. I am now 54 years old with 3 young children and have a range of diabetes related complications, including peripheral neuropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular disease (quadruple coronary bypass 12 months ago) and others.

I want to base myself and my family near to a diabetes 'centre of excellence' where progressive and holistic diabetes care and treatment is carried out. I would anticipate that the institution would be research orientated and well resourced (if such a thing exists these days!).

Where would forum members suggest that I consider, and why? Names of particular consultants may also be helpful to my researches.

Thanks for your help and apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place.

Hi tobo1ie,

Welcome.

One of the forum rules here is that we don't mention clinics, specialists or doctors by name in open posts. If people want to share any views, please do it by PM. Tobo1ie - you won't be able to send any PMs until you've posted a few times, so why not post a few questions or thoughts around the site.

Good luck with your move and search.

tobo1ie - I agree with Russ, thing is it would be hard to advise anyone on which clinic or consultant is best because we all have different expectations. I could recommen my consultant to you yet if you were to consult with her you might end up thinking she is the worst ever or something along those lines.

I understand your concern though, unfortunately you have some complications there. I suggest you google NHS diabetes clinics and see what comes up, then you could maybe email any departments with some of your queries and see what response you get.
For example I did a quick search on google, one of the first that came up was this one http://www.bartsandthelondon.nhs.uk/our ... s-service/, best search for clinics this way, maybe the bigger the hospitals the more chance you have of research units attached to them too?

Search for a list of hospitals in the area that you consider moving to, then contact departments for further info/
I have done something similar for a skin condition, I ended up travelling to Liverpool, my GP arranged a referral for me at the time, it worked out for me, hopefully you find what you need in relation to your diabetes. ask around.

All the best to you and yours
