Which monitor, Accu-chek Aviva or Active?

Hi, I'm needing advice again, well just went to pick up my prescription for my accu-chek strips and was told that our pharmacy cannot get them on nhs prescription. So the meter that I have just bought is no good. They can offer me testing strips for the accu-chek aviva or the accu-chek active! Which do you think is the best machine, have tried looking etc, and am still dumfounded as to which one to get, so any suggestions would be great.

Julie, which Accu-chek meter is it they can't get the strips for?

As for the Aviva or Active, opt for neither and go for the Accu-chek Nano instead as its a far better meter and very small and compact too.

I'll 2nd that Nano .. its a great little meter with a lit display for dim so and so's like me :lol: :lol:

If you contact Roche's AccuChek division its more that likely they'll pop one in the post for you FOC :wink:

The one I bought was the Accu-chek compact plus, which I've been getting on with ok, the dr wrote me the prescription, I went to pick it up today and the pharmacist said that there not available on nhs prescription, but he can get me aviva or active, the problem is my husband is in the Army and I have to go through a military pharmacy, daft eh, mind I still have to pay, so I've just got a years pre payment certificate, seems like the best thing to do!

Hobs, your a star, was geting quite confused about it all, will get a nano one, looks good to me and been able to get the strips on prescription is a bonus, thanks for your help, where would I be without this board!

Hi Pinklady,

"Can't get them on NHS prescription"? Now that confuses me.

I've been using the Accu-chek Compact since 2003 and I've been able to get then on prescription since then, no problem whatsoever. I last picked some up in November!

On the prescription they are written as COMPACT COLORMETRIC TEST STRIPS [Roche Diag]. When I read your post I even checked the latest NHS price list to make sure they hadn't been withdrawn and no, still there!

Maybe it's a military thing? I don't know, I have no experience of them despite my signature (the reason for that is a long story).

Just thought I'd let you know my experience.

I'd be inclined to try a different phamaciast.
We use the Aviva and the Nano and they both take the same strips, never had a problem with either.

Agree completely! If they weren't availiable on the NHS, surely your Dr would tell you that not your pharmacist?

I know use the Aviva, and like it. If teh pharamciist is correct, I would call Roche and check with them what the situation is? Mention that you may change to another brand if there is a problem with Accuchek strips...and I am sure a new meter will be on its way to you free in the post?
 
I was diagnosed in October and have a Nano too, it is great, very easy to use and compact.
