Are these white onions without the dried brown outer layer ? They could be fresh onions ie fresh not stored or it could just be a supermarket description. You can get fresh garlic that hasn't been stored.
I have noticed that Sainsbury's calls Romano peppers 'sweet pointed peppers' and mushrooms are now 'white closed cup mushrooms'. Sainsbury's still sticks to spring onions but Waitrose calls these 'salad onions'
