FatGenes, he was a very professional actor wasn't he, I enjoyed watching him in films.
I admired his music and thought he was a fantastic singer with excellent voice control.
But in both cases he could never control his viscous temper.....correct?
I only ever read biographies and he was someone who always got my interest.
The latest bio I read about him was written by his last wife, Barbara (Marx)
She mentioned his temper and an experience she was confronted with during the
very early days as she was getting to know him, before any romance blossomed
between the two of them.
It was a serious but funny incident.
I can't remember it word for word but she was invited along to his house one evening.
Later, they were playing Charades which obviously required a time keeper.
Frank chose her.
He lifted a clock from the mantelpiece and handed to her. She held it on her lap and as
the game progressed she had to shout time on Frank.
He was annoyed about that and flew into one of his notorious tempers. He apparently
grabbed the clock from her saying "who said you were time keeper"
She had just started to say "you did Frank" when he grabbed the clock from her and threw
across the room.
One of his entourage looked at Frank and said "well I know what that one is.
"Oh yeah" responded Frank!!!
"As Time Goes By" came the reply.
Frank convulsed in laughter and the heat of the moment simply melted away.
I thought that really very funny.
