Hi there My first thought is, what is your biggest priority? If I was you (unless you are morbidly obese) my biggest priority would be normalising bg. To do this, at least at the start, you need to cut out the few remaining carby things in your diet - yes, that's the ketchup and the fruit! I might even cut out celeriac mash in the short term. When you get your bg and your weight to where you want it to be, then you can start to introduce other foods slowly, checking for what puts bg back up or causes a weight gain. The other thing that strikes me is that I only eat as much in quantity as you eat in your main meals, and I'm never hungry, and I guess that is because I embrace the fat. I don't heap on loads of extra fat, but I suspect, for instance, that your 'good for you bacon medallions' are actually low fat, go for proper bacon and fry it in a bit of lard - just like your mother used to! and fry a small tomato in with it too, to replace the ketchup Check out your coleslaw and Mayo, if you are not making your own they are often a source of hidden carbs. As to the question of why increase fat, it's the hunger satisfying part. You don't need large portions of protein, you are actively avoiding carbs, fat is the one nutrient group that you can eat to satiety with no adverse effect on your bg. It has been said before, but I will say it again, change your veg to only above ground leafy for, say, a month, eliminate the other obvious carbs, and that will bring your carb count to around 20-30g a day. At that level your BGs will come down, and your weight will start to reduce, you may have a high level of metabolic resistance and need to be as low as 20g to lose. I don't, personally, think it's helpful to count calories at all. A further thing that will happen, if you go down this route, is that your hunger will reduce, your portion sizes will naturally reduce, without you having to feel like you are 'starving yourself'. I virtually always eat only 2 meals a day, no snacks, no hunger. When I decide to snack it's because I 'fancy' something, rather than to satisfy hunger - yesterday I had a bag of pork scratchings, and particularly delicious they were. Saw my favourite brand in the pub where we'd called in for a glass of red wine, and decided to succumb - not hunger, not craving, just 'a little bit of something you fancy' and 'legal' too. So, to sum up, the low carb is not working because it's not low enough. Your hair loss, not too sure about that, the only time I've ever had a good head of hair was each time I was pregnant, my hair has always varied, sometimes I seem to shed a lot, sometimes not so much. Personally I don't worry about it but I don't have any other symptoms of thyroid problems and it's pretty much normal for me. Good luck.
