Why do I have diabetes?

It's a question I think most of us think, especially in our teens (if we're diagnosed in our teens that is) but a friend also asked me

WHY DO I HAVE DIABETES

.

It's hard to tell kids that it's all about genes and stuff. But it's one of those things that I wanted to know how parents deal with it...!

Hi arjster,
As a parent, all i can say is when my son was diagnosed ( i had an idea of what diabetes meant) all i could think of was thank God its not cancer or anything else sinister. Then i thought, it may be for life, but its not a life sentence, its a way of life. i'd like to think we are successfully dealing with it, a positive attitude helps, but it's not always easy.
