We all know that is the worst thing you can do.

In a fictitious Sky TV program called Touch, a man had collapsed on the floor with a low blood sugar. His friend told him to go to the fridge where he could find his insulin.

On the ITV Anglia news last night (25th September 2013) there was a story of a diabetic Diabetes specialist nurse working at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge who had a dog recognising a blood sugar below 4.5 The reporter said that she would need insulin at this level!

I think Casualty may have done this in one episode also, but can't be sure.

This is a whinge but seriously, if I had a hypo at work that rendered me unconscious, one of my colleagues may think I required Insulin and make things worse.

I feel it is time to re-educate such program makers so they understand.

Whinge over, for now.

It is worrying how diabetes is portrayed in the media, too often they get it all incredibly wrong, you would think the medical advisers who advise programmes like Casualty and Holby City would at least get it right

I was reading a news article the other day about a lorry driver who saved a man that was having a hypo at the wheel of his car.
In the piece it said that the car driver had a fit after having very low blood glucose, but was fine after paramedics gave him insulin.

I'm sure that he would be very un-fine if the paramedics gave him insulin for a hypo! It annoys me because long long long before I was diagnosed with diabetes, or before any of my family were diagnosed, I knew that hypo = low glucose, hyper = high glucose. It's just one of those common-sense knowledge that we pick up along the path of life.

Well, if they're anything like GP Chris Steele............. I am seriously losing faith in the medical profession  The best medical advice would probably be from a long term Type 1 and get them on board to get the real know how of diabetes and how to treat Hypo's and Hyper's  You only have to look on this forum for sound and knowledgeable advice :)

I know how you feel if it shows someone in a programme giving a diabetic having a hypo insulin no wonder people get the wrong idea about it and how to help us out when we need it.

I can still see in my head a crime drama on tv years ago. The evil grandparents locked their diabetic granddaughter in her bedroom and she died because she had a hypo and couldn't get her insulin....!!!

Re: R: Why do TV programs say you need insulin to treat a Hy

OMG...so much incompetence. Probably someone confuses insulin with "glucagone =glucose in syringe".
If you have a hypo and someone gives you insulin it is the best way to kill you.
