why does my levels go high overnight

can somebody explain why my sugar levels go very high overnight when I am not eating anything after about 9 at night. they go up to 14 overnight when I test first thing in the morning

yes I am on metformin,i take them twice a day, in the morning and at dinner time in the evening. I do not understand why it goes up over night when not eating anything as it appears to be fine during the day

It's common and there is a lot written about it, it's also the last thing to gets right. are you on a low carb diet?
