Insulin resistance is a similar type of thing as drug resistance. A drug addict ends up having to take more and more of the drug (for example, heroine) to get the same affect and eventually he/she has to take the drug just in order to feel 'normal'. Meanwhile the heroine is ruining their health and their lives.
