Why is my BG at 10.2 two hours after brekkie of scrambled egg and smoked salmon. For gods sake nothing seems to be working for me. Weight has stalled etc etc.

yeah nothing is ever really simple... very unpredictable. Don't stress and just keep soldiering on. The thing with diabetes is that there are so many anomalies that impact on your BGLs, not just food. Maybe you have something else going on? :D

All I can think of is that you must be incredibly insulin resistant. I went through a phase where a cup of black tea with a splash of cream would take me from 5.8 to 7.4!!
I was never overweight had just over a stone to lose.
I found supplementing with cinnamon and Bitter Melon beneficial.
And now that I have kept very tight bg control for the past 4 years with no major fluctuations I find insulin resistance is no longer an issue. I am also very active with daily exercise of around an hour minimum.
Don't give tp Dawn I know its so frustrating but you will get to where you want to be eventually.
Do you have lots of weight to lose? What about Metformin? You might need some help with this even if its on a temporary basis.
Good luck

Not on any meds, not overweight as such but could do with losing a stone, all around midsection (classic) thanks to menopause and hysterectomy. Just given up being a veggie after 5 yrs and now as of yesterday I eat fish. Was getting fedup of eggs and salad needed a bit of variety. I have actually put some weight on going low carb so it really is frustrating. When I google it just says I bet you are eating more than you think erm no.

Hi Dawnmc, it's so annoying and frustrating when you get Unjustified highs. Viv might be right; perhaps you need some help with medication to get those BGs under control; once they are, you could perhaps reduce or come back off them. Don't see meds as failure, just as a tool to get you on track. Sure you'll get it sorted.

I agree with Grazer and Viv, If you've tried low carbing and it's not getting you low enough readings don't see meds as failing, see it that you've tried your damndest and your body needs a bit of help.

the other thing to consider is how often are these readings happening? could it be a rogue read? Are you well generally (sometimes bugs can affect BG's) Were your hands clean and dry?

My bg sometimes plays silly Bs. Last night Iwent to bed at 5.1 and this morning's fasting was 5.2! within the accuracy of meters, I've no idea what was happening.

The only certainty with diabetes is the uncertainty. My pre lunch reading was 4.4, +2 reading 5.5. All I had was an Atkins low carb shake. No rhyme nor reason.
