Why our dietary guidelines are bunk..

WWII rations from britian have always held an interest for me. Having a undergrad major and honors in history I always like to learn more, it would be the lack of eggs that would get to me. Also on youtube there is an episode of The Supersizers go wartime, where they eat the food from WWII that would have been available. It also reminds me of the great TV seris "Goodnight Sweetheart" drama series that is based during WWII, and I would recommend for anyone to watch, absolutely great BBC series. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodnight_Sweetheart_(TV_series)
 

Thank you for the link Tipetoo. I'm reading through "the wartime kitchen living of rations with ration book cooking" blog posts as I eat my breakfast of two slices of bacon, onion, two cups or more of broccoli, eggs, and 2 ounces of sharp cheese with cup of coffee, made with freshly ground beans.

As I read through the blog and the comments, I'm struck by how little I know. I was born in the early 60's. All of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins lived far away, and my parents never talked with us about the war years. I have a lot of catching up to do. The blog, particularly the comments, are an informative and humbling read.
 
Now if one were to cross reference ANY modern disease with these times, you would find the undeniable truth. It would not matter if your credentials were Harvard or Oxbridge, my version would hold more water....and less sugar.
