Hi my names chris,
Ive recently been really bad with a chest infection for going on 3-4 weeks, not neccessary to the story but my neice (12 weeks old) was in the baby unit with bronculitis, so as an uncle would i was ther day in day out, monday night i was not feeling too good but with myself being ill and experiences in the past i would not of known if i needed insulin without a blood sugar reading, which in my mistake i had left at home, so being at a hospital i went to the walk in centre with intention of a sugar reading, within 30 minutes i was on a fluid drip and sliding scale with sugars in excess of 30+ and ketones no lower than 5.. Everytime i am unwell or sick, my insulin does just not seem to work like my body is rejecting it, does anybody else have these problems or is it just me ? Ive explained this to every doctor when i have a DKA but they just assume im not taking my insulim as i should be which is frustrating as they are insinuating that i am playing with my life..
If anyone else is experiencing this kind of thing could you please give advice on how to resolve it or anything would be helpful ?
Thanks for reading

Generally speaking your body becomes more insulin resistant when you're sick. This generally requires more insulin to keep blood sugars in check. It's the same reason why oral steroids cause elevated blood sugar levels.

Hi Chris, do you actually increase your insulin dose when you are ill and your blood sugars increase?
