My fasting readings have always been high 8-9,but overall A1c is 6.3, so not too worried
However creeping up to 10. now and double figures concern me.

I have heard that wine can reduce readings,(you naughty people on this site have a lot to answer to!)
I am not much of a drinker but have become one!!!
I have been experimenting for 10 days now and my bedtime reading is lower and fasting level around 8, that is with drinking half a glass of red wine with my evening meal every night (so still within the safe guidelines)

Does it work with white wine too?
Does anyone know just before I become an alcoholic??!!

Lol, yes I agree, folk here have a lot to answer for. I tried with G&T's for a while, yes the FBG's were lower, but for me not worth the amount of alcohol I was drinking (only a maximum of 2 a day). So I stopped, but yes it works, but I think I will keep the G&T's for a naughty meal.

Hi Brambles

I'm a red wine drinker so don't know re white, from what I've read on drinking habits what you are doing is a healthy way to drink.(if such a thing exists)

Not to excess and not bingeing

1/2 a glass of red wine with a meal cannot do you any harm.

It does help reduce blood sugar levels but it does it quite a strange way, it something to do with your liver being "busy" dealing with the alcohol and not producing any glucose, I think. Somebody should be able to explain this a bit better.

I have also heard that there is a particular chemical in red wine that does actual help.

I wish I could stick to 1/2 a glass a day!

Another member did say that they had started drinking white wine, instead of red, I think it was because someone else in their house was tucking into their red wine supply but they didn't like white, and it had the same effect.
