Wondering if I should increase my meds

Hi
My blood sugar lately has been very high-I blame the stress from my mum passing away a few months ago. My last HbA1c was taken 2 weeks ago and it was at 9. (my fasting test for that morning read at 14!)
I am taking metformin 4 x 500g a day.
Gliclazide 2 x 80mg a day
1 Piolitazone 15mg
My doctor has told me to increase my Piolitazone to 30mg daily.

My recent fasting test has been 10.1 (Im never below this in the mornings) and my pre dinner test was 10. I feel my bloods have lowered of late and wondered if you thought I should still increase the dosage of the Pioglitazone?

Any advice?

LinTay - a VERY BIG COMFORTING HUG for you, I am sorry to hear of your recent bereavement, stress and upset can play havoc with our blood sugar levels.
Do you have family and friends to support you though the grieving process, or if not, you could contact CRUSE, a very helpful, caring organisation. Dont bottle things up, its important to talk things over.

Nobody in the forum can advise you on whether you should increase your medication, we are not medically qualified to give this kind of advice, you need to discuss with your doctor or nurse.

Is it possible for you to tweak your diet, what are you eating, write us a daily menu, maybe we can come up with ideas on how you can lower your bg levels.

Thinking of you x x

Thank you for the comforting words. It has been a very upsetting and traumatic time. I am coping better now than I was and I have a good family for support. I am convinced those very high readings were because of it all as my recent ones seem as they usually are.
My diet, well here goes.
I eat half carb bread and have one piece of toast for breakfast.
Lunch is usually a boiled egg on another piece of toast. Dinner can be chicken in sauce with a few new potatoes or tuna salad with a piece of half carb bread, or wholemeal pasta with a home made tomato sauce.
Once a week my hubby cooks a huge paella..I cannot resist that lol
I dont eat sweet things like cake or biscuits so I do get frustrated with my readings.

All of my cousins on my dads side have type2 diabetes so it is definately genetic with me!

My one downfall is that I cannot exercise as I have arthritis which is painful upon movement. I have a fear of water and cannot swim (and have even tried lessons lol)

My query was just for general thoughts as I know my doctor told me to increase my pio but that was after my last Hb readings and my sugars have dropped since then . I guess I really should refer back to the diabetic nurse:)

Hmmm if its not possible to reduce carbs any further you probably do need to speak with your doctor or nurse re advice on medications.
I am pleased to hear that you have a good support network to help you cope with losing your Mum, she lives on, in your heart, the memories will never fade, she obviously was a very special woman.
Be good to yourself, eat lots of healthy food, esp the lower carb variety and oily fish if you can, its been said that it helps with arthritis as well.
If you find exercising difficult you could maybe try chair based exercises, they tend to be easier on the joints, any movement counts, even fidgeting!!

I have sent you a PM as well, hope you dont mind x x
