My mum is type 2 and on Gliclazide and is experiencing frequent hypos. She's just informed me that t ŵork they do not allow her to have her testing kit in the area where she works. If she is feeling low she has to walk up a flight of 20 stairs to get to her locker. She's not allowed to keep any glucose tablets or anything on her person.
I want to know if this is illegal!!?? She said they also asked her when she is likely to be cured :/ I'm in shock to be honest. This is a big well known company surely they should have better procedures for employees in this scenario?
Yes, they should know better and yes if it is necessary to test your blood whilst working, then the Employer should be making reasonable allowances/ adjustments to allow their employee to maintain a healthy body and mind whilst they are in their employment.
You say she's not allowed to keep it on her person. I'd say that's fairly standard if she's working in a canteen. There should definitely be testing supplies within easier reach than a flight of stairs though, that's just ridiculous!
You may be able to find the company's policies online somewhere
