Saw the diabetes nurse yesterday who told me the result of a urine test I had had proved that my pancreas is producing "loads of insulin", in her words. I was delighted, but then found myself getting angry and confused. I have had T2 for around 12 years. I have been on insulin for about 8 years. I have only recently discovered carb-free "dieting", which has changed my life. BUT ... if after all these years my pancreas seems to be working "normally" (excuse all the quotation marks!), despite my body being flooded with excess external insulin, why was I ever given insulin in the first place? I understand that T2 means that the cells of the body cannot absorb the insulin that is produced, but no-one told me that by reducing carbs I could reverse the disease, before giving me insulin. Can anyone help with my confusion?
