Working shifts while a type 2 diabetic on insulin

I currently work 2 days , 2 nights followed by 4 days off. 12 hours shifts. I am struggling to keep my HBA1C down my last 2 results were 78. I have also developed macular Edema for which I am having 5 weekly injections in the effected eye. I am going to see occupational health on Tuesday to discuss my health issues and to hopefully get a report for my employer to use to adjust my shifts to help me get better control of my diabetes. Has anyone had similar problems and do you have any advice for me.

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your struggles with shifts..
I also have been treated for MO. Did you mean monthly injections of Ant-VEGF??

I’m T1 & found the night work (when I did it.) played havoc with my basal to the point I didn’t need it?
I was reducing the dose down to the ground. Which messed me up the following day..
(Another reason why I would need a pump…)

How is your BG management generally on the day shifts or days off??

It’s certainly worth talking with your employer & negotiate day work to see if it improves things for you?

Best wishes..
