I have recently changed to working a 12 hour night shift on a four on four off rota. Please can any experienced shift worker advice best eating practices etc. shifts are 18:00 to 06.00. I am type 2.

I worked that shift pattern for 16 years, I found it better to stick to a normal daytime eating, others I worked with wouldn't eat after midnight, good luck with new shift.

Thanks for your response. Did you eat a snack prior to going to bed?

Usually had a milk shake or piece of fruit
On Sunday's we used to cook breakfast at work, scrambled eggs, or a full English, (I didn't have a full English as I don't eat pork products) etc
Start of nights was 7pm on a Friday, we would have fish n chips (again no chips for me as I cannot eat potato),
A guy I worked with used to graze all night, but he only ate meat, sausages, chicken, pork ribs.
I think it is important to keep hydrated, drink lots of water, avoid coffee, it makes you feel awake for a short time then you hit a tiredness wall more coffee just makes your mind buzz and you will have trouble sleeping.
Invest in good blackout curtains, a sleep mask, ear plugs, unplug your phone turn mobile off.
