Worried about nothing???

Hello all.

I had a funny "episode" earlier on today and I wanted to write it down and see if anyone else has ever felt like this!
I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes and I am not sure even sure if I am looking in the right place for my answers.. anyway....

At about 10am this morning I started to feel very anxious and the sick feeling hit me. I went exceptionally hot (to the point my face was bright read and blotchy) I drank a bottle of water but didn't feel like I had hydrated myself at all and had an urgent need to pee but was worried if I stood up I would fall over.

I sat at my desk for a while trying to calm down but my hands were getting sweaty and I could feel myself getting hotter and hotter, I managed to sip a bit of coca cola but gagged a bit and felt sick again.

This went on until 12 when I went out to lunch and got some fresh air.

Still not feeling great but am now eating something so hopefully it will make me feel a bit better,

Has anyone else ever felt like this????

Sound slike a question for a doctor. Not a bunch of bitchy ol' diabetics... :wink:

GT, Patch is right, you need proper medical advice, it could be anything. Are you female? The menopause could cause those symptoms.
 
It would be very early, but not unheard of. You really need to see your GP if you are worried.

You may be suffering from reactive hypoglycaemia.

As others have suggested, your G.P. is the best one to help you and we cannot diagnose here. Even a G.P. would need to see you for a face to face interview.

I hope you can get this worrying set of symptoms diagnosed soon.
 
I agree that you should see a doctor if you're concerned. It could be anything, and quite possibly nothing to worry about. Could you be pregnant? I remember the morning sickness I had when I was carrying my daughter, it would hit me all of a sudden out of the blue and was an awful feeling which would last for a few hours. There are a lot of viruses going around right now too, so could be something as simple as the beginning of an unwell period. Do you have reason to be concerned about diabetes, do you have a family history of it at all? If so you can ask your doctor to check your blood sugars, they may do a finger prick test which will tell you what your blood sugar level is at that time, or they may ask you to do a fasting test where they'll take blood from your arm after fasting overnight. If it is diabetes the only way to confirm and diagnose is by blood test.

Thanks for this, looking at the symptoms in that article it seems exactly as I felt. I have managed to eat a bag of frazzle crisps now and I have just started to feel better, not feeling so hot and dizzy.

Do I just ask the GP for a blood glucose test or something??

Hi,

Glad to be able to help.

You need to go back to your G.P. and explain about what has been happening and ask for advice. He might order some blood test or may explain to you, (as does the article) about balancing your meals and what you should add or omit from your diet.

Whats strange is now that I have had something to eat I feel like there is a sense of clam around me but also I am now very cold!

I will speak to the GP and let you know how I get on

If I was to do a blood glucose test when I felt like this what would a "normal" result be??

What you described is very similar to the symptoms I experienced before my diagnosis of type 2. However, I was assured by my GP that there was no connection with my diabetes and down to exhaustion and stress. As others have suggested, get yourself to your GP and get tested, if only to put your mind at rest. Do you have any other reason to suspect you may be diabetic. Keep us updated on your results as I will be very interested to know what your GP says.
 
I agree - sounds a lot like a panic attack. I had a couple about 18 months ago. Basically it's the body's fight or flight mechanism releasing adrenalin.
 
The symptoms are 90% those of a panic attack which can come on without warning and under any circumstances.
 
Thanks for the link Catherinecherub. I have bookmarked it because this happens to me a lot, since about 2 years ago when I now realise I became pre-diabetic.

I have had panic attacks for years and it is similar, but not the same. But the chemical responses are identical to panic attacks. Feeling cold is normal for me afterwards, like I have had a shock. Which, I suppose, my body has had really.

I echo the suggestion to see your doctor to find out the cause. In the meantime, try to eat something every 3 hours while you get it sorted out. It will help keep you body on an even keel and prevent it going into shock like this. Especially if you are busy or concentrating for long periods.
 
Thank you all for your comments, I will get myself to the doctors. Hoping it is just panic attacks and not anything else.
 
Just a thought:

My psychologist told me recently that I can induce a panic attack by not eating regularly. So maybe the two are linked?

Yes that would be a good idea globerunner as I see you had a similar episode 5 days earlier, good luck!
