This evening before meal it was 7.5. 2 hours later it's 7.9 (meal was peas, carrots, a couple of mini roast pots and some thin beef slices with a little drop of brown sauce followed by a pot of creme caramel).

Should I be worried about this as a newly diagnosed T2? I had a dark chocolate tea cake late this afternoon. Would that be the reason for it?

Somewhere I read that you need to keep your bg below 8.5 after a meal but I know lots of diabetics who would consider that too high. Everyone reacts differently to food but the accepted advice on here is to lower your carbohydate intake. If you add up the carbs in your meal, I think that would be too high for some people. Certainly cake is a no-no as far as I'm concerned-even a tiny sliver would shoot my bg up to over 9. Add that to potatoes, carrots and peas and you have a carb rich meal that I personally couldn't eat. Of course, you have to keep testing and find your own path and levels but again I would urge you to look at your carb intake if you want to get lower readings. :D Hope this helps.

if you want a good cake which doesnt raise blood sugars try this

100g of almond powder

2 eggs

100g of margirine

20g of sweetner

1 - 2 table spoons of baking powder

1 -2 table spoons of cocoa powder

mix altogether and make into fairy cake cases and put in the oven for 20mins the same as normal fairy cakes. note dont have these if your trying to lose weight as the fat in this receipe is massive, nearly 40g of fat per 100g but its the good fats. i find these dont touch my bgs and are very filling. my mrs makes batches of them and i take out of the freezer 3hrs before using. try adding other ingredients like strawberrys or fruit making a muffin like cake

My son cooks for me sometimes and likes baking. Guess what he's going to be making this weekend!! :D Thanks for the recipe!

It could get a bit squishy! :D I wish they'd hurry up and invent something useful...like a willy wonka instant transporter :)...or just a cure for diabetes so we could eat what we want! 8)

And one that stops us getting fat at the same time - now that would be really useful........
