Today I went to the doctors to get checked on a boil that had developed on my skin. The doctor prescribed me some antibiotics to help treat it.
He also sent me for a 'finger prick' test with one of the nurses to check that I'm not diabetic.
The result came back at 6.3. The nurse has now booked me a fasting blood test for next week.
I am overweight but don't suffer from many of the classic symptoms of diabetes. I do eat far too much sugar though.
I'm worried about what happens next and what my chances are of being diagnosed with diabetes. I'm a little bit scared in all honesty. Is 6.3 drastically high or is this just a routine thing?
6.3 probably is too high to be normal. A fasting test rarely tells much though so what you want is a HbA1c and possibly an OGTT, oral glucose tolerance test.
If I were you I would stop eating sugar. You know it is bad indeed for you so what is the point in having it?

a reading of 6.3 particularly after the chocolate implies you are unlikely to be diabetic, but if you can modify your diet to reduce the carbs then you reduce the risk of becoming diabetic
