Sorry to be a bit gross but looking for help from larger ladies. When I was diagnosed it was cause I went to the docs after having repeat yeast infections under my belly flap. I've had them in and off over the last three years but lately I'm proper suffering it's all under both bobs belly and the groin on one side. I'm not sure if this is a sign that my sugars on the rise as I'm diet controlled or weather it's just worse cause I'm sweating so much at work and my bra and trousers are rubbing me as I work in a bakery so it's 30 most days. Just after a little bit of a dive really if anyone else Is suffering at mo with the heat. X

I had the same with my groin, it only went when my BG was under control.
I would check you BG, do you have a meter? or I read some UK chemists will do it free for you, or go to the dr and get a blood test

Do you have a meter to test your bg?

When I was diagnosed I had thrush. Doc says that yeast will thrive on any warm part of the body where it can feast on sugar. With raised bg levels sugar is found in all bodily fluids, not just blood. When you reduce your bg, you starve the yeast.

In the meantime, Daktarin spray may give you some relief, it's dry, unlike the cream. I have found that since getting my BS levels down and losing weight I don't get it so much. Also, I never used soap on any affected areas, just plain water, so as not to irritate the areas. Nylon or polyester undies may make it worse too so I stick to cotton. Synthetics don't absorb sweat and make things worse.

Good luck, Hevab.

I sometimes get this , years after a post op stomach flap ( girl op some years ago,now )
The line under the flap gets really infected ....your dr can prescribe some cream, wish i could remember the name of it,??? It is for the bacteria ...
Anyway worth getting some as infections can occur .....and with the heat and body sweating the smell is not so nice unless treated ....and it may get very uncomfortable .....

Any one can get this infection male or female , and you don't have to be larger .....:) x

100% Cotton knickers, with the waistband pulled up under your tummy flap, not over it.

And I think your BG levels are probably higher than is good for you. Sorry.

Luckily, I haven't been prone to thrush, but the twice I have had it have been in hot weather, when on holiday, eating more carbs than usual and sometimes having a drink - it was before I could test my own blood glucose, but I was definitely running with high blood glucose!

Incidentally, hot weather often raises your glucose level.

Repeated thrush was one of the reasons I went to the doctor, and was diagnosed with diabetes. Within a week of changing my diet and going on Metformin it cleared up and hasn't returned (thank goodness)!

I too am larger than I should be and get sore in the places you mentioned. I hadn't connected those with thrush though, I must admit. I am hoping that as I get smaller and get my BG under control they will be a thing of the past.

Regards,

Carol

Thrush is a yeast and will thrive in dark damp conditions and where there is a food source (glucose). Us diabetics are very prone to thrush. Lower the BG levels and thrush will be a thing of the past. All fungi/yeasts tend to either like alkaline or acid conditions. Those that like alkali conditions will be killed off by vinegar (acid). I found thst Sudacream worked quite well but needed applications every couple of days or so. Better to get those BG levels down .

I had never had thrush until last September. Suffered for weeks and it recurred after numerous treatment. Went to the doctors and eventually diagnosed T2. I monitor my bg levels and I no longer suffer.
I have suffered from soreness under the tummy overhang (or flop as the case may be!). When I went to bed at night I cleaned the are and used a clean flannel/square of cotton to place under there over night. Usually dry by morning, less raw and then easier to treat with whatever cream etc in the morning. What about petroleum jelly? Vinegar sound a good idea.

I've had repeated thrush since I was ten years old. It's only in recent years I linked it with sugar intake though - doh! Not a sign of it on my low carb diet, with my new, lower blood sugars. It makes me think I have probably been on the edges of diabetes since I was a child and the constant reaching for carbs, with the accompanying slow upwards climb of my weight, is probably linked to that.

So, I suppose the question is how well-controlled is your blood sugar? If it's too high, then your answer to the thrush will be to get it lower - low carb, weight loss etc and I'd bank on it improving.

Interesting.

I'm not really prone to thrush, but my main signs of too high BG are nighttime widdling, hot flushes in the night - been having them for... er... 20+ years. The last half of which I have been identified as prediabetic. But also low carbing.
Maybe I've been diabetic all along.

I've never had the widdling, but when I've overdone carbs have noticed thirst. Never had hot flushes in night but do sweat a lot - which I always put down to weighing in at very hefty. Have had night sweats since getting BS down, but think it might be too low overnight and hoping to sort that with lower Gliclazide.

Im prone to thrush and chemists do a canistan cream for sweat rash that helps so much. But with my sugars under control iys been loads better.I changed to cotton pants only and umm well at home now my older lads have moved out and I only have hubz and girls I wear loose fitting trousers and no undies to cool

If soreness has got painful I have used Lidocane cream, it contains a mild anaesthetic so controls the pain while the healing seems to go on under it. But it's true that bringing BS levels down helps a lot, as does losing weight if needed as we don't get so hot. Last Summer I was carrying around and extra 3 stones and I certainly notice the difference this year, so far. I'm about to lower my carbs a bit more to kick start losing the remaining 1.1/2 stones as I seem to have stuck!

Hi, RosieLKH on the subject of widdling, I to have and still have got this problem, which I had before I was diagnosed with T2, and I have support from this from the Continence Service who supply very thick Moliform pads free of charge, I wear these all day and at night, and I even have two forms of medication, one stick on patches and, two a once a day tablet.
I think that I might be being carefull with my carbs, but I have had a thirst for a long time, and now I have found away of controlling the level of thirst and not to over do the drinking of fluids. I know that having anything stimulating, like tea at night meaning piddle problems, so it's no added sugar squash, or fruit teas. I am also heavy and not at an ideal weight, and trying to loose weight for knee replacement re-assessment in november, and I am in up/down syndrome without getting on the right side. So lets see what's next, ttfn

Wow thanks guys wasn't expecting so many replies. I'll tenant remeber q's. No I do not test doc won't give me i had a few when first diagnosed as managed to get a free meter but they ran out years ago and I just haven't had the money to afford more alwasy outbid on eBay lol. I am only diet control atbthe mo however on my last meeting in Mar h they had gone from 47mol to 51 she has given me six months if it's gone up again wil start tablets. I suspect it has just from how I've been feeling. Slight dizziness in heat at work everyday last week when sun was hot and a lot of mornings I'm in and out bathroom for massive wees I suspect I have higher levels in th e mornign then at night as this was the case when I had gestational diabetes 5 years ago. My work uniform definitely does not help the material it's made out of. I use cream and its all healed for now. Guess si should. Go bk to gp beofe the 6 months as thibgs are not looking good for me right now x
