Hiya all
I have been recently been prompted to look at my own health because of several issues.... mostly because my "wee" brother ( 6'2" and 50  ) amongst other things was diagnosed T2 recently, I already have a cousin with T1 and my daughter had gestational diabetes. I had a baby over 10lbs in weight and had PCOS. racking up the risk factors  and I am obese with arthritis in my knee . I have already lost 2 stone from my heaviest but had got stuck..... however cue wake up call in this last week.
Purchased a BG meter and did some randomish testing......... to be shocked at a reading of 11.8 one evening. Today DH and I did the "lucozade" based "GTT. eeeerrrrrrr BG at best the high end of normal - to over 10 at peak ( DH had 11.8 at highest).
Soooooooooo
I already have sight problems, I dont want to add diabetic retinopathy.
I already have an arthritic knee, I dont want that to get worse ( have to use walking aids sometimes)
I am an ex nurse....... I know what could happen if I let this situation continue or get worse,
The blinkers are now OFF... I cannot continue to think that because I can walk 5 miles a day or swim 2,000 meters in a swim session or do physical work with my horses or pretend that because my blood pressure and cholesterol are brilliant that that counteracts whats happening.
I MUST alter my eating habits once and for all !!!!
My goodness......... writing all that down somehow makes it feel more "powerful "
I am looking forward to exploring all the points of view on here, expanding my knowledge and making good choices
