"Mr Gill said he felt a personal incentive to spread awareness following recent revelations by the Sunday Times and Channel 4's Dispatches that several members of the Government’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition had financial ties to sugar manufacturers."
Thank you for posting this, I had not seen it. Having researched the members of my local CCG I noticed that they had to declare conflicts of interest (or possible CofI for clarity) and while I am not surprised that this MEP has discovered this conflict one wonders how they got away with it.
So much for for 'Well Proven Scientifically based Guidelines. Pfft!
Edited to add. I realise the member did not make the discovery but I applaud his actions in raising awareness of it.
Remind me on the study done on cheese to say there is no conclusive evidence that eating cheese before bed gives you nightmares.
Study was conducted by cheese manufactures.
There is a short thread about this. He has a facebook page and an email address, so people can leave comments or write to him in support, should they wish to.
I am not surprised to learn this I am always suspicious of research because of the many cases like this .Ifnyou can trace the funding of research you will often find similar links .which is why I am so cynical I suppose
I think it's well-known the links PHE (Public Health England) have with the food manufacturers thru University 'Research' departments hence the Eat Well Guide being the Eat(un) Well Guide. Always look behind the 'facts' to find out who funded the research

Interesting article. It's a shame that the people who we pay to give us good advice actually give us the advice of organisations who pay them even more (probably). I think people on this forum have learned a long time ago to question so called "good advice" and to check it out for themselves.
