Sounds very similar to our hospital visit. Sent home from the GP that morning with antibiotics for a chest infection. Breathing started an hour later so took her into hospital, thankfully we went with our instinct, her blood glucose was 32 and ketones were 5.5 which is pretty bad so We're told...
