2 hours after ice cream?

I did the ice cream today. Bg before dinner and ice cream 5.1 2 hours later, 10.7. Not good!

Hi @Troubled1 have you heard of Oppo ice cream? Low carb (about 7g carb per 100ml) and very delicious. I can safely eat it as part of a meal without a spike in blood sugar levels - as can many others on the forum. Check it out here:

There's also a couple of threads on it if you do a search.

I had a Cornetto yesterday very naughty I know, but FBG this morning was 4.9 so not too worried as it was a one off.

The only time I enjoy ice cream is on holiday, sitting on the prom somewhere. It always used to be a 99 with raspberry sauce. Now it's a plain vanilla tub (with clotted cream on the top if available). I find a sharp but very brief spike in the first hour, then back to normal after that. If I have a cornet cone that is another story. My theory is it isn't the ice cream but what comes with it that can cause issues.

I bought some 'sugar-free' ice cream (Gelato) from a vendor in the Garda area last September. I was at 6mmol before I ate it, and up at 15mmol 2 hours later - won't fall for that one again!

Oops should have posted that too.
Husband was 6.9.

High chance he is pre-diabetic isn't he? ):
No I do not think so 6.9 it is not even very high . BG levels do go up for non diabetics sometimes as high as double figures when they have eaten a lot of carbs but it very quickly goes down again.

Just wish we could get it in our area we have all the supermarkets here but I have never found it in any of them apparently not all supermarket branches stock the same things it depends on demand. When I asked about it and along with H&B they said they had never heard of it

Just reading through the effect of ice cream. Fathers Day and snacks at lunch time with my Daughters, white bread roll and ham, potato salad followed by ICE CREAM. I can normally get away with this but forgot my metformin, arrived back home had a bottle of water, dropped of to sleep, when I woke felt like a wreck, now I've got a 9.8 mmol. Diagnosed a year ago type2 and still do stupid things.

An update on Mr. Noodlez. The blood test came back, and he is pre-diabetic.

Before the blood test results, Mr. Noodlez was admitted to hospital for atrial fibrillation and water retention . He is now home with 6 different meds. The cardiologist was far more concerned about the heart conditions, and did not prescribe any diabetes medication for him.

I am putting him on the same low carb diet I am on now. He still refsuses to test his blood sugars at home, saying he got needles more than enough in the hospital. At least he is taking all his meds and going to cardio rehab...

Tried to get him to lose weight for 2 years now. Hopefully he will finally commit now before it is truly too late.

Low carb, or LCHF?

Ice cream porn, while it's an ice cream thread.
I flew out to Italy the weekend before last, and for some reason Birmingham airport doesn't sell ice cream, and it was sweltering, and I fancied a Magnum.
But Italy had a Magnum bar when we arrived. (Yes, a shop that only sells Magnums)
They deep freeze a Magmum, dip it in a chocolate you select, add three different types of sprinkles, (chocolate fudge, and double crispy caramel for me), then drizzle with a contrasting chocolate, (as it's deep frozen, everything freezes on it, and you can order it with an espresso.

I don't recommend this for anyone, even non diabetics.

I try to sneak more fat in, but husband is sold on the 'fat = heart attack' that his nutritionist is still feeding him. He is eating more olive oils now.

Also on the topic of ice cream, that is a tasty looking bar. Sadly I can't do toppings anymore. Feel physically sick after sprinkles. Just ice cream is fine though.

Well, I avoid saturated fats, and go for good fats like olive oil myself, (not in vast quantities by any means though)

Oh ....... white chocolate Magnums. Plain. No sprinkles. Just heaven. :) If only.
I can cope with a plain vanilla ice cream in a tub. It's the cones that I can't cope with. Better than nothing though.

Hi @InstantNoodlez It is good that your husband has you by his side. Hopefully he is also being closely watched in terms of frequency of monitoring. Clearly important for him to have the most nutrient, antioxidant and satiating food and most importantly the support you give him.
