Diabetic bladder dysfunction

I have recently started having bladder problems. (I'm a male by the way!)
Mostly a delay of up to 7 seconds before any flow, reduced stream, and often very little sensation that urination is needed. My questions are:
Is this relatively common?
Is it a sign of autonomic neuropathy?
Does it necessarily always progress if you keep your HBAIC very low? e.g. below 5.4
And is there anything I could or should be doing to help this condition?
Thanks for your help.

Have you spoken to your GP about this issue?

Yes I have, and he has advised that all that you can do is keep your HBAIC as low as possible, eat a healthy diet, and stay slim.
I was hoping that perhaps someone had heard of some recent research or other professional opinions from their doctors on this.

Maybe (probably) I'm being dim here but has your doctor confirmed that this is diabetic issue rather than something else (eg many men of a certain age have prostate issues)?

I guess from your avatar that you are at an age that the prostate starts to expand as @EllieM suggests. I recognise the symptoms you mention and I'm amazed your doctor hasn't investigated. I have been on medication for at least 10 years and it has helped enormously. This might be interesting:

My husband , 68, also has the benign prostrate enlargement problem. It's very common and nothing to do with diabetes. Can you see / discuss this with a different doctor ? Remember any person with diabetes can develop any other condition known to medical science.

My non diabetic husband had similar symptoms. Went to Gp, referred to specialist. Minor procedure all sorted. Nothing to do with diabetes in his case

Thanks everyone for your replies. My doctor has thoroughly investigated it. By way of interest, my prostate is excellent for my age, infact would you believe I was told I have the prostate of an 18 year old! ( I'm nearly 60) so some good news anyway. Also been to a neurologist and ruled out any spinal issues by way of MRI. Definitely a diabetic issue. I was just hoping maybe someone had heard of something new perhaps because if this gets worse I could be looking at self catheterisation every day which horrifies me psychologically. Thanks anyway.
