I am 33 years old with a 7.0 a1c. Diabetes type 2. As soon as I found out I immediately changed my eating habits and gave up almost all sugar. I had never felt my body reacting from a low blood sugar but it is scary. Now I am reading everything I can about diets and exercise and it's all so overwhelming. I am now attributing every ache and feeling in my body to diabetes.
The doctor has diagnosed me with anxiety and has prescribed lorazepam. I was diagnosed with anxiety because for some reason I kept having a fear that I would die in my sleep. The doctor checked my heart told me I am okay (Thinks I'm a bit of a hypochondriac) and told me not to come into her office until March the 9th which is when I take my new a1c. I have been visiting her once a week since diagnosis.I have become slightly anorexic because I just don't feel like eating. I try but after a bite or two I am not hungry anymore. I have also been referred to a sleep specialist because I am not sleeping well at night. The doctor believes I may have sleep apnea due to congestion. I am inclined to believe her because I do wake up at least twice during the night. My blood sugars have been great and I am down 11 pounds. I was taken off of metformin. The doctor says I do not need it. I am taking garlic twice daily, ALA 600 mg, and a multivitamin plus an antibiotic for an infection. All in all things are looking good. How do you guys deal with the anxiety? Did you have any?

Are you worried about going hypoglycemic in your sleep? Hypoglycemia shouldn't be possible unless you're on certain meds, so it's nothing to worry about.

If you wake up feeling that you're about to die, then sleep apnea could be a cause if you're getting oxygen deprived. Either way, it's good to get it checked out.

I was a little anxious about going hypoglycemic when I first started on Gliclazide. But my blood sugar's so high at night that I'm probably in more danger of being hit by a meteor :p Testing my blood sugar has been the best anxiety-reducer for me - I can see what's going on, and know that I'm not in any immediate danger.

Welcome from a fellow Texan. I'm in Austin myself.

Sidenote: I would consider this the best online diabetes forum I've found. However, it's important to note that many of the members live in the UK where measurements and names are slightly different. Example: An 80mg/dL blood sugar reading for us is 5 mmol/l for people in the UK. The easy math is to divide by 18 (80/18=5).

I can't say I deal with much anxiety, but I attribute that to being very self-aware and able to analyze my thoughts/feelings and rationalize with myself to decide if I should be reasonably worried or not.

welcome here HopefulinTexas

type 2 do not very often get too low in blood glucose, but it can happen , and it can easily happen in type 2 that do take insuline affecting medication and insuline along with ones lower carb dieting..

so try not to worry too much if you dont get insuline or insuline affecting medications.

when I was diagnosed with type 2 7,5 month ago , I started out with a feeling like almost all food where kind of poison to me...just shopping in the supermarked I thought of all the stuff there as not being foods but poison like almost everything 80% of the foods were not suitable to me anylonger...that was a giantic chock..
well after a while I now know what I can eat and what I cant eat... maybe you are still in a kind of chock state... be kind to yourself and remember that after a while and with a lot of information and good advise and inspirering food suggestions , which you can find a lot of in this forum... then everything looks brighter in the longer perspective, that is if you do indeed learn to cook in a different style and give up the initial selfpitty that most of us are overwhelmed by ...

we could consider us a new alian kind of humans beings that just have to live at food style like a seperate kind of species...

there are lots of wonderful low carb foods high fats and delicious treats..

I decided that I was going to be in control of my diabetes and not the other way round. I am almost there following the low carb diet and if I can do it anyone can. Can't see the point of worrying about something that may not happen, the time to worry is when it does happen, then do something about it. Hugs galore. Please try not to worry too much.
