I wouldn't say I have a sweet tooth but I do like crisps a lot. Would that be bad for me years down the line??

Asked by Sharri on Facebook during the 7pm-8pm live chat with Dr Hilary Jones. Got a question? Ask it here.

I know crisps are tasty but they are more savory than sweet. They are often very salty with very high fat content. As you know both of these should be kept to a minimum whether you are a diabetic or not but who is to say you shouldn't enjoy the occasional treat provided your blood sugars are usually well controlled.

Well I eat crisps sometimes. If I have a meal which has close to zero carbs, I occasionally have a bag of crisps to stop my BG hanging at 6.5 ish

Is that it?
I counted 7 questions??
I'm certain a couple of our learned posters could have answered these without sitting on the fence about diet and treatment!
Don't know why I sound so surprised!
Ho hum!

Be gentle mate. Give him a chance. Remember his son is one of us.

Crisps!!!! Oh my word! The fat and salt are fine, it's the potatoes that are bad for diabetics because they are carbs!!!! Like someone said they're OK if you have an otherwise zero carb meal and test, but generally why would you waste your carb allowance on junk food? I am speechless!

Why pander to his ego?

As I stated diabetics would get a more logical and honest answer from some of our regular posters.

I believe the good doctor would benefit by reading the forum and especially the threads by his fellow GP, from southport!

I think there are some really sensible T1's who could help his son too.

Indeed. We all need to help each other. Some of you know more about this condition than any doctor ever will. It is your life.
