Meters - need advice

I am on Libre but obviously have a meter too. I currently use Accuchek Aviva but think this is out of date/discontinued? Although I can still get strips.

What do others use? What is a good basic one? What is allowed on prescription? (Particularly an Accuchek)

Any advice appreciated thank you before I start contacting GP/DSN etc

I've used several meters and they all work fine for me.
As for what is available on prescription, doesn't this depend on the area or hospital you're in?
My current meter is a Contour Next, which I like, but I don't like it particularly better than any of the other 4 or so meters I've used.

The info Rachox has is very useful, but mainly aimed at T2's who have to self fund their strips.

If there is a choice of units of measurement then ‘mmol/L’ are the standard units in the UK, ‘mg/dl’ in the US, other countries may vary.



Don’t forget to check the box if you have pre diabetes or diabetes so you can buy VAT free. (for all meters and strips)

Hi thanks v much for info. Yes I do get meter and strips on prescription but I just wanted an idea of whatwas available. Also my doctors can be a bit blinkered and strict on what they give me so I want to have some knowledge myself

If you contact a Diabetes centre / clinic at local hospital they should have give away meters as this results in NHS purchasing test strips ) good luck. I have Omnipod Dash pump and PDM /Freestlye Libra 2 with reader .Best wishes.

You dont have a say in what meter you’re given by your gp surgery. I have one they gave me which I don’t like but I can’t afford to buy my own or the strips that go with it.

Try phoning company re meter you need. Some will send free also . Are you in UK? However I’m referring to type 1 Diabetes. Insulin users. Sorry if info unhelpful.
