Hi, I have been type 2 for approximately 20 years. My blood sugar was always well controlled, but last year I noticed it started climbing. The first couple of doctors I saw did not seem very concerned, I was told until it hit 300 there was nothing I should do. That soon happened and I was consistently between 200 and 300. The next doctor I saw added Farxega to my meds. It helped a little but not much. About 2 weeks ago she started me on basil insulin. The effects have been dramatic. I am consistently between 130 and 170 with an mmo/l of below 8 every morning. I recently started reducing my metformin and stopped Tradjenta and the results are still in range. My doctor told me that it is not unusual for this to occur for long time type 2 diabetics. I recently found this forum and have found it very useful. The key for me was finding a doctor who took the time to work with me as it was a bit of a journey to get to this point. She also had me see a kidney specialist and that has been quite insightful.

Interesting. I've known I'm T2 diabetic for around 20 years and I've progressed through lots of medication regimes, usually increasing dosages at regular intervals. Recently I've started injecting insulin. At first it did make some difference to my fasting BG figures, lately, however, they've started to creep up again. (10.2, 11.9, 11.1, 11.9 mmol over the last few days).
I think I'll have to come off metformin as I'm sure it's the cause of my stomach problems and my need to be within a minute of a toilet else suffer the rather obvious embarrassment of.....well, I'm sure you won't need me to elucidate further.

Thanks for sharing your experience David. I was able to cut the metformin dose in half without too much trouble with the insulin. I have found recently that without the Tradjenta, I am having trouble staying in range during the day. I have cut back somewhat on the insulin and started the Tradjenta again. Good luck David.
