6.6 this morning... but, in my defence, I spent half the day in airports and on planes yesterday...
I only had a Bullet Proof hot chocolate when I finally got home last night.. one of our cats hurt himself just before we arrived home and we had to wait till this morning to take him to the vet... Poor YoYo, he must have fallen from a tree and he's pushed one of his canines into his mouth... he's in hospital now and we're waiting to see what will happen to him... Anxiety pushes your numbers up I know, so I'm trying to eat to keep them right down... :) 5.7 post-lunch... is that ok? No time to do pre-lunch... or breakfast...

Your numbers seem good, despite the anxiety you must be feeling about your cat. It is hard to keep to a routine when worry takes a hold, especially over an animal's welfare. Hope things are looking brighter now.

Really on the up and up today.... woke up late again; fasting 7.0 - and feeling very tired and slightly light headed/woozy.

Got worse after I went down to make breakfast and got distracted, did washing up and cleaned out bird's cage, made some brunch, and tested at 8.4... still not feeling right until well after I'd eaten... but finally back to 7.0 again. :eek:

I have just bought a test meter in the last few days, spent a few hours reading the notes and testing it with the control solution, everything in range by the readings. This morning I went for my daily dog walk 3kms , entirely forgot to do my first test BFG, and had a small breakfast of 60g rolled oats, spoonful of apple sauce (no sugar added, make my own) plus whole fat milk warmed up. Waited a good hour and then did my first test, reading said 219 mg/dl. I live in Thailand and that is the measurement they use here.
Last November the docs here said I had type 2 diabetes, I weighed in at 101 kgs, now mid April and I am 85 kgs, still a bit of weight loss to go, but have binned all the bad foods and eating sensibly. Looks like I may have to say good bye to my oats?, pity as I only eat them about three times a week and always after a bit of exercise.
The only medication I am on is one 500mg metformin tablet daily. Should I really be worried by that very first reading?, do a number of tests before going to see the Docs again. Appreciate all advice.

Billy

There's a few observations I'd like to share with you:

  1. Great that you've bought a meter and actually use it - Well Done! Personally, it was the best thing I ever did!
  2. When testing test pre prandial (before food) and 2 hours (Don't bother with the 1 hour until the 2 hour is consistently OK) post prandial (after finishing your food) and look at the difference between the readings. You're looking for a rise of 36mg / dL or (ideally) less. If the difference is more then analyse your food - especially the carbs in it but, also be mindful that fat and protein have an effect on the glycaemic load of the meal - especially the former. It's a case of test - eat - test - record - adjust - repeat until happy.
  3. I found porridge spiked me the first time I tested it too! Its supposed to be good for us? You could try swapping the full fat milk for Almond milk (stay clear of Soya - its inflamatory unless unfermented) and / or find some jumbo sized oats (these break down into blood glucose slower) and / or adjust (perhaps even remove) the apple sauce.
  4. Vigorous exercise can cause your liver to raise your blood glucose levels so your body can maintain the exhertion - very gentle exercise will use up blood glucose.

Hope that helps.

@s_k_s Wednesday 15th

4.6 this morning, yesterday's exercising, walking instead of using Taxi's has certainly paid off.
Force of habit, extra careful with food when away from home.

6.1 mmol / L this morning.
4.5 mmol / L at bed time. That's better - in fact the whole week is better. Still a way to go but, better. :)
