Hello. There may be a simple answer to this but I can't think what it is. At 5.18 my blood sugar level was 5.8. I had my breakfast of raspberries and Greek yoghurt 5 mnutes later. I took my bs before lunch at 12.25 and it was 8.2. I had had a coffee but no food . What would cause the levels to rise so much without food? I'm curious. Thank you for taking time to read this.

Did you have many raspberries? or a lot of milk in the coffee?

No not many raspberries and I don't use milk in coffee I have it black. Can the nines of food cause bs levels to rise? I was just thinking there was 7 hours between breakfast and my testing before lunch.

Perhaps you went too long without food and had a liver dump?

You really need to test 2 hours after eating to see what sort of rise you might be getting. Sometimes fruit for breakfast may have a bigger impact than later in the day. I see it sometimes with blueberries and yoghurt, and I think someone else, possibly @Brunneria, has had this happen too. With me this rise may last most of the day until my evening meal.

Liver dumps? I can get these sometimes even after any kind of minor activity, if my liver thinks maybe my throats been cut... :D Usually around a 1.5 rise.

Contamination on finger giving false reading? if you're puzzled by an unexpectedly high reading, it's worth washing hands and retesting to be sure.

Nothing's ever straightforward is it - you have to be a little glucose detective, with your meter instead of a magnifying glass....:p

7 hours is a long time between meals. It is a fast, so most likely you went a bit low and your liver kicked in by dumping glucose in your blood stream to keep you going.

Wow thank you all for the answers. There are so many possibilities. Yes @Robbity a detective with a meter! Very true.

As @Robbity says, i get silly high blood glucose from yog. And milk. Far in excess of the actual carbs contained in them.

I think it is a food intolerance.

@Brunneria thats really interesting. My son believes he an intolerance to milk and has started buying lactose free cheese. That is food for thought . I will start making a particular point of testing after dairy products. Thank you for posting.
