Just diagnosed myself as type 2 diabetic and am confused

I love baking so am def up for that and seems I need a trip to lidl :)

Hi I too was diagnosed with Type2 beginning of Jan this year. Was put on metformin 500mg 2 daily, and also waiting to go back to see doctor in a month, also told I will have to have more blood tests in 3 months. No wonder we get confused not much info from doctors.

Hi @amgrundy - You could call in at your doctor's surgery and "politely" remind them? My surgery have already given me the blood form to have my bloods done for March!:)

Hi Liam1995 yes I will remind them thank you for that. Perhaps my doctor will give me the form when I go to see him in 3 weeks, but knowing my doctors I will have to remind them I think.

Yes medical care for diabetics does vary from practice to practice. Mine is pretty good my GP asked to see me after my routine annual blood test to tell me my BG level had finally gone over 7 so I am officially T2 and she talked a bit about what it meant. That was on the Thursday had an appointment to see the nurse on the following Monday she looked at my feet all ok there took my blood pressure and said I would be put down for an eye scan. She asked me how I ate ..I do moderate low carb and fat she said that was fine and she would get the doctor to put me on Metformin. Told to start on 1 and increase every 2 weeks until I was on 4 a day Have to see her again in February for my three month blood test but she said not to hesitate to see her or the doctor if I had any problems in the meantime. Metformin was giving me bad indigestion and bloating by the time I was on 3 a day so I saw my doctor who straight away changed me to the SR version and said to see her in two weeks to let her know how I was tolerating them. I have really got no complaints about my HCP's

Hi @Munster52 :). Welcome to the forum. I'm also a nurse and recognised the symptoms prior to my official diagnosis at the beginning of Sept last year. I saw my GP initially and he was very helpful. I'm yet to see the nurse - have finally got an appointment for the 3rd March! Long wait, but the appt letter came with a 3 page attachment detailing all my test results and asking me to make notes about all the things I want to discuss so that they can create an individual care plan for me - so I'm quietly hopeful.
If you're concerned - make an appt to have a chat with your GP.
I've found the best thing you can do is educate yourself. It's something that will be with us for a long time so best to make ourselves patient experts. The advice on here is always fantastic.

Hi I'm a nurse an self diagnosed myself when I did a blood sugar which was 24 ! , I refered myself to the diabetic nurse at my gp and whilst waiting to see her (2 weeks later) I put myself on low carb diet lost 10 lbs and got my blood sugar down to 7 . When I went to see her she was so unhelpful I'm no better off than before. She didn't want to see my readings , said I'll start you on metformin 500 mg buMt I don't know why as I thought I'd done really well in two weeks. Asked if occasionly could drink a bottle of wine on a night out was told no- one should drink that much!! . They gave me no advice whatsoever just told me to come back in three months!!. The only useful thing she did was refer me for an eye test as iv had horrendous blurred vision, she didn't even ask if I had any problems or symptoms. Now I'm a qualified nurse so if I don't know what to do from here nonmedical people have no hope. Could someone tell me what I should be doing now I test my blood sugars at work but was told I didn't need to as I'm type 2 hello but how do I know how I'm doing if I don't test?., also why start me on meds when I'd obviously made a difference myself in only two weeks? . Any help gratefully received thanks in advance .
I cam over these videos from Living It Up Org and a great source of information from all the Diabetic Health Professionals - really worth watching them all https://flourish.livingitup.org.uk/content/no-delays-introduction-diabetes

I've enjoyed Joseph's but currently enjoying Carbzone low carb tortillas.
I tried a coconut wrap but extremely chewy and expensive when delivery wasn't free.
I sometimes use a company called Avidlife on-line who do pitta breads but as of yet not found a pizza base but give it time. Burger buns were available too but haven't tried them. Quite expensive so I'd only buy as a treat. :-)

Was searching for Carbzone tortilla reviews @ickihun and it looks like you've tried them :) any good? I want them to make Enchiladas - used to use corn tortilla but 25g of carbs in each. Would be nice to be able to make this again as a family staple we love.

I find josephs better, tastier but carbzone ones by far better than coconut wraps.
There is nothing unpleasant about the carbzone wraps and they are very functional.
Joseph's low carb wraps are my favourite.

Coconut wraps are very very greasy and sweet with a bitter after taste.
