Hey all!
newbie here but diagnosed in may 2001. Experiencing pain with trigger finger especially on 3 fingers on my left hand. Find it worse on colder mornings! Have been to a doctor about it but not much was made of it. Does anyone have any recommendations for pain relief?

I would try to get a second opinion. Mine used to get 'stuck' and it was excruciating. My GP suggested ibruprofen as an anti inflammatory - the tendon from the wrist to finger is swollen which is why it's hurting. It didn't go away, so after a couple of months, I had a steroid injection in between two of my fingers. That was so painful that I threw up, but it helped. It's still a bit sore, but I'm not sure I could face another of those injections!

Oh God! That sounds horrific!!! Sometimes it happens that if I'm holding a phone for a while all my fingers stick and it takes a while for them to loosen out. I think I'll go back again next week I don't want to leave it go so bad that the pain is unbearable. Thank you for your advice hope it's not Giving you too much trouble!!

Hi there @wannabemammy
this is fairly common in type 1's -- i have had 5 fingers operated on for "trigger finger" , 3 on my left and 2 on my right.

i have had a fair few steroid injections over the years too.

no they are not the most pleasant feeling in the world but they do relieve symptoms for a year or so.
( watch BG levels for a few days after)

all the best !!

Hi! I have had all this pain in both of my hands. They made operation to both of my wrists. And now it's gone. Thank's to God!

I have had trigger finger almost constantly for the last year. Originally it was in my right hand ring finger but as that one wore off it started in my left hand middle and ring fingers. I find that sleeping in a hand brace type wrist support stops the fingers clenching up over night (which helps with getting showered and dressed in the mornings) but the pain often goes right down in to the wrist and on a really bad day I can feel it almost to my elbow.

Actually it was the trigger finger that was the main reason I've worked so hard to get my BS down but I'm still getting the trigger finger.

@himtoo
I was advised against the steroid injections (I was told they raise BG for some time). Did that happen to you? If so by how much and for how long?

Sorry for all the questions. :)

Hi @Chook
honest answer -- tough call !! i would advise going for the injection / and or operation as the injection gets rid of symptoms for a year ( or sometimes a bit longer )-- and the operation(s) have lasted me 25 years since the first 1.

the high bloods for between 2-5 days 9 for me ) are worth it for the pain in my opinion

all the best !!

Hi @himtoo Hmmmm I'm sure I can cope with 9 for a few days in order to get rid of this pain. Thank you for your reply and for giving me something to think about. :)

I had trigger thumb for a number of years and would have the steroid injection every nine months which helped but the problem always came back. In the end I had an operation to relieve the problem and haven't looked back since. The local anaesthetic is no more painful than the steroid injection. After that I was able to actually watch the operation with no pain.

i got to choose my music on a couple of my ops -- but the choices were rubbish:eek:

it's a bit weird watching yourself being operated on ( in my opinion -- but i do have the badge now -- i prefer the out for the count route )

Thanks for the feedback guys, the pain is now unbearable I'm finding it difficult at work especially.gonna go to the doctor on Wednesday about it, I'll let ye know what they say
