Early morning glucose level

hello all,

I've been pleased that I've had close to normal blood levels since going low carb.
However I did my first morning bloods today and it was 7.6 - more than I expected.

As I've not eaten should T2 worry about morning readings and should I worry about these morning levels - or am I being over the top for a 7.6?? I've been diagnosed for 2 1/2 months.

All advice gratefully received

While I'm type 1, I have similar issues with morning levels and it's the trickiest part of the day for me. Some people attribute it to what's known as "Dawn phenomenon" while others have suggested that it's because of excess protein consumed the night before (I eat probably 300g of protein a day so that's certainly a valid theory).

How long do your levels stay elevated in the mornings before they begin to drop?

Hi thanks for that - never heard of the Dawn Phenonemon so that's very helpful. I've only been testing a few days and have no pattern yet - not testing very much - so no idea yet how long it lasts - I probably do have a lot of protean - five eggs for breakfast etc so that makes sense - thanks for info
