Hi
I am type 2 and take metformin twice a day 500mg
Just lately when I test my blood it's ether 10 or 12 I can't seem to get it down any idears I go gym regular

hi there
how often ( and more importantly ) when do you test ?

to get an idea of why your numbers are where they are you need to test

first thing in the morning upon waking
before brekkie
2 hours post brekkie
pre lunch
2 hours post lunch
pre evening meal
2 hours post evening meal
before bed

if you have those readings as a sort of baseline you can then look at
a) what you ate and what your BG did
b) what changes you can make to your diet to reduce the numbers

Exercise helps a little, Metformin helps only to a limited extent. Diet is the key to lowering BS levels.
I agree with @himtoo
Can we help you with your diet?

Thank you I will try that

Hi @BLACKBERY
Can I just add to the very good advice from @himtoo and say write all this information down. Your readings and what you have eaten and also your exercise. Do come back with questions.

I took my readings this morning at 715 am they were 6.5 I had then had a tea and coffee then at 8 am I had 2 oatibix then I took my 2 metformin then I had another coffee went for a swim at 935 I took my real and they said 14.5 I know it's not quite 2hrs but still any advice

ok --
so 2 x oatibix is 31 carbs , 4 oz milk ( assumed amount ) is 5.5 carbs

tea -- any milk or sugar ?
coffee -- any milk or sugar

so what we have is 36.5 carbs raises your BG by 8 mmol
so doing the simple maths 10 grams carb should raise you BG by 2.2 mmol and is a safe amount of carb to eat at brekkie

you can repeat the test again tomorrow to confirm , or look for alternative brekkie choices with a lower carb value

Hi thank you for your advice
No sugars just milk
I have just retook it as it's now 2 hrs and it's 11.5 I though excerise is supposed to take it down I will try porage tomorrow
Is that why I itch a lot do you think every time I start to exercise I start to itch even in water

I also think the exercise might also have a bearing on your reading. Gentle walking for me brings my readings down. I think that more intense exercise, which is good for you, may take it up a bit for a short time, Possibly someone who does intense exercise could help with that.
I had to cut out Weetabix as my body couldn't cope with that. I now have scrambled eggs and mushrooms for breakfast.

I will definitely try something different for breakfast iv just retaken and my readings are down to 6.4
So oatibix is definitely out

I am a newbie and learning fast but have just managed to reverse type II with LCHF diet, fasting alternate days for 3 months and a punishing exercise regime. Walking makes no difference to my BG. 30 minutes hard workout on a X trainer at level 10 followed by a 5k run on a treadmill at 1% elevation raises my BG each and every time. I have been testing before and after exercise as well as fasting and post prandial levels.

One thing that 'helps' fill me for breakfast is scrambled eggs as many as I can eat plus chopped chillis as hot as you like!

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my threads today some great feed back
