Insulin storage

I keep insulin in fridge apart from the ones in use, would like advice on how long these last or should be changed if not all used,was told not to keep the ones in use in fridge is this correct

Depends what type of insulin you're using and the method of deliver (pen, pump, vial, etc)

My general understanding is that you should probably change out a pen within 30-40 days after it's opened.

Your insulin will have an expiry date on it. Keep it in the door compartment of the fridge, cos you don't want it creeping to the back of the fridge & freezing.

When you are using your insulin, keep it out of the fridge (it hurts if you inject it cold) & I don't think it's good for it to be going in and out of the fridge (not sure where I've got that idea from though). It's fine out of the fridge for a month. But don't leave it in direct sunlight or next to a radiator etc.

The unopened insulin in the fridge will last up until it's expiry date provided it's stored at the right temperature, in use insulin at room temperature should be discarded after 30 days.

Levemir:
Unopened- can stay in fridge until expiration on packaging
Room temperature and opened- 42 days

Novolog
Unopened- can stay in fridge until expiration
Room temperature- 28 days

Those are manufacturer suggested time frames which are usually very conservative.
