First results following diagnosis 8 weeks ago. HbAc1 was 135 on diagnosis now down to 74 but, I have been told that ideally it needs to be under 53!!!!! My fasting level was down from 23.9 to 7.2. Apparently that is all pretty good for 8 weeks. I have been following the LCHF diet my question is what on earth do I have to do to get this down? I am on 1500 Metformin and 40 Gliclazide. I believe this is accumulative, so if I carry on with what I have been doing will this drop??? I have another blood test in 3 months?

IT IS a good improvement. Please bear in mind that your a1c is an average of the previous 2 to 3 months so you will not come down to non-diabetic levels in the blink of an eye.

You ought to be pretty close at the next one, so keep on keeping on @6cats .

Jezu that's good work, keep it up and you'll you flatten out and in control. Good on you.

You are doing REALLY well! just keep it up.
As @urbanracer says, it is an average of the last 2-3 months, so your hard work won't fully show until you have an HbA1c taken 3 months after you started the new regime.

How much are you testing? People who test a lot - before and after eating, fasting and bedtime, can often guesstimate their A1c using the average of their readings. It is never very accurate, but it would maybe set your mind at rest?

Obviously, if you only test occasionally, then ignore my last para. ;)

Good going!

That is a magnificent improvement in just 8 weeks. Well done. Remember, this isn't a sprint, it is a marathon and takes time. Your next HbA1c will show even more improvement if you carry on as you are doing.
:)

Excellent. You should be really proud of yourself. I am confident that providing you continue, your ac1, Blood Pressure, LDL cholesterol and Trigs will all come down and your HDL, good chol good up.
