Hi can anyone help? Food items such as corn beef are listed on pack as very low in carbs..but would it come under processed which is supposed to be a no no? Also several people have suggested pork scratchings as a quick go to for a snack (i like my healthy foods dont get me wrong, but there are only so many carrot sticks you can munch), pork scratchings as a treat snack certainly do not raise my bs but are they also classified as a bad fat? Any guidance would be lovely. Im aware of the good fats, and under the bad fats, not to have any pastry, batter, or heavily processed items etc..but its the other bad fats im a bit confused over? Thanks..

And for those in the USA, toxic fat from meat fattened in CAFO (concentrated animal feed operations) where the cattle are pump with antibiotics, hormones, steroids and fed on corn grain. Here in the UK, we don't seem to have this level of intensive beef husbandry, just the campylobacter in the entire chicken stock.

Saturated fats are bad to me, and corned beef is imported, and full of stuff that is pumped into the animals.

Non saturated fats are preferable.

Watch pork scratchings, first one I googled.

Ingredients:
Pork Rind, Pork Fat, Salt, Flavour Enhancer: Monosodium Glutamate, Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein, Rusk (Wheatflour, Salt), Dextrose, Colours: Paprika Extract, Ammonia Caramel

Allergy Information:
Contains: wheat gluten
Contains: Gluten, Wheat, Soya\Soybeans

CAFO beef is an excellent source of fat.

Not sure there's anything in there I want to eat

I'm also in the low saturated fat camp. Not as good for me as avocado nuts seeds olives
I do eat some red meats occasionally but try to get the leaner cuts and on,y in small amounts. No dairy here either, or chicken skin. I certainly wouldn't enjoy the thought of pig fat haha though many do. To each his own

I am not being sarcastic here but curious as to what your daily menu is like. There was a time I ate no carbs, just loads of beef , bison, lamb, butter, chicken with skin etc. I didn't do so well. Packed on the pounds and had high bs but that was years ago and times have changed.
I still can't eat loads of veggies but I have a handful with every meal and have reduced protein as well as eating more fish and poultry. Though I thoroughly enjoy my reds on occasion. Rare please

NoCrbs4Me, I didn't realise. Have read several books and watched some really credible Profs who literally described the fat from CAFO as toxic, due to all the stuff they are pumped with. They describe the fat as white as the telltale test when healthy meat fat should be creamy yellow. Anyway, you sound like you know so I appreciate your response.

Pork scratching? I say go for it .... if you are not careful you can become obsessed with what you eat, my diet is 100% better than before diagnosis - if the only bad thing I eat is in a bag of pork scratchings I can live with it.

The Awfully Posh range are very nice - http://www.awfullyposhsnacks.com/pork-crackling-products/anglesey-sea-salt-pork-crackling/ - Ingredients: Pork Rind, Anglesey Sea Salt (nothing bad?) ... and I've just discovered they do a Chilli flavour :)

The word 'Toxic' usually is enough to make me very suspicious of any claim - most of the people using it have no idea what it really means - you just have to as anyone claiming what their 'detox' method actually gets rid of and they'll probably list 'heavy metals', er... that's it. It's a 'dogwhistle' word really that gets those who believe in the natural-is-best fallacy going without caring why, but means nothing when you get down to the specifics (like 'Chemicals' or 'GMO')

CAFO is more of an environmental / moral issue for me, but corn-fed is a great thing - the best chicken is corn fed. I personally would be very suspicious of yellow fat on my pork chops. Lard should be pure white.

Kevin I prefer 100% grass fed when available. I also prefer ground as opposed to steaks as the steaks are generally too lean and flavorless. Grass fed fat is also much more watery than CAFO fat. I only eat a few ounces at time so it's very affordable. A meal of GF beef is cheaper for me than a regular black coffee at a coffee house.
2 St Patrick's days ago I made an organic 100% grass fed uncured corned beef. Worst thing ever. I ate fish that night. If my fork can't get through it my stomach surely wouldn't. Generally my corned beefs are great. Lesson learned again. Same with bison and other game meats, I prefer the ground vs steaks.

Have you tried the Real Pork Crackling company ones too? I get them from Sainsburys.. they are I find a bit more flavoursome than the awful posh (although I love those too). The ones I have are in a black bag. Time for a scratching review?

Pork scratchings are fine for those with strong teeth, and my goodness, you do need strong teeth! I'm glad I don't really care for them.

Those do look good Mark, will be hunting them out - tend to agree about the others, but I eat them as I know there are no carbs and I can almost pretend I am eating crisps :D

Whatever I had they would most likely have been Awfully Common ones rather than Awfully Posh. Thanks for the tip, however. :)

Mostly bacon and eggs and beef (steak or minced). Seafood and cheese occasionally. Anything that is from animals. I stopped eating plant sourced food 10 months ago and my weight now is the same as then, although there has been some fluctuation. I try to only eat when I'm hungry, which generally means just twice a day - usually either breakfast or lunch and almost always dinner. And no signs of scurvy...yet.
